Medicare Hospice Benefit
Generations Healthcare is certified by Medicare
and most of Generations’ patients are eligible for coverage
under the Medicare Hospice Benefit. Generations accepts the Medicare
Hospice Benefit as 100% payment for services with no co-payments
required.
The Medicare Hospice Benefit is covered under
Medicare Part A and beneficiaries who choose non-curative measures
will receive a full range of supportive services for themselves
and loved ones.
The Medicare Hospice Benefit provides for:
- Physician services related to the life-limiting
illness
- Nursing care provided to the patient through
regular visits
- Home health aide services such as assistance
with grooming or bathing
- Homemaker services
- Medical equipment such as wheelchair/walker
or hospital bed or specialty mattress
- Medications related to the hospice diagnosis
or used for symptom management and pain relief
- Medical Supplies such as diapers, bandages
or catheters
- Short-term inpatient and respite care provided
in nursing homes or hospitals
- Dietary Counseling
- Bereavement Counseling
- Social work services
- Spiritual care
- Volunteer participation
- Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapies
Who is Eligible for the Medicare Hospice Benefit?
- Patients who are eligible for Medicare
Part A benefits.
- The patient’s doctor and Generations
medical director certify that in their best clinical judgment
the patient has a terminal illness.
- The patient is opting for palliative (non-curative)
treatment for their illness to enhance quality of life and alleviate
pain and symptoms.
- The patient utilizes a Medicare certified
program such as Generations HealthCare.
Medicaid (Public Aid) Hospice Benefit
Generations HealthCare is Medicaid certified
and accepts the Medicaid benefit as 100% payment for our services
with no co-payment required. The services provided to patients
utilizing the Medicaid Hospice are the same as those provided
to patients using the Medicare Hospice Benefit. (Please see the
above Medicare section for a detailed description of services).
Generations’ social workers will also assist patients and
their families in completing Medicaid applications when appropriate.
Private Insurance/HMO’s
Many private insurance plan and health
maintenance organizations offer a hospice benefit to their recipients.
Generations HealthCare will work closely with our patients and
their insurance companies to maximize any hospice benefit available
under the insurance company’s plan. For more information
